Hello and happy Monday!
I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready for a new little project! Today we are making a mug rug. It´s winter, so for us that is the ultimate time of the year to have loads of hot drinks. There are always a lot of mugs around the house at the moment, so why not giving them a pretty little rug to be placed on!
It´s no big secret that I´m the biggest fan of Mollie´s Christmas owls, so I really wanted to involve them in my mug rug.
scraps of fabric for the rug front and back
thin fusible interfacing
embroidery floss and needle
bias binding (homemade or store bought)
First I embroidered my little owl on a piece of fabric. If you are short on time simply take a nice printed fabric and skip the embroidery but if you are not in a rush I think it´s totally worth to put some stitchy detail onto your rug!
Find Mollie´s awesome patterns here.
Cut out all the pieces for the star front of your mug rug, one piece of interfacing and one piece of fabric for the back (both in the size of the star front!). Take your star pieces and sew them together. Once you have completed your front, iron it and iron the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric front.
Layer the front (with the interfacing on it) and the back together and secure with a safety pin. Sew your bias binding on. If you want to know how I usually do it, go here.
That´s it - easy as pie, right? Speaking of which...you can sit down now with a yummy piece of pie and hot chocolate to use your new mug rug for the first time!
