' Nuts for chestnuts - a sewing tutorial for little felt fall friends!

free tutorial for sewing felt chestnuts for fall

Today we have a cute little fall project for you. Stitch up a felt chestnut with our free sewing tutorial! I can´t believe it´s October already. We really enjoy fall with its vibrant colors and we love spending hours outside collecting chestnuts. So what could be more perfect than some little sleepy chestnuts! The tutorial is really simple and only requires a few scraps of felt and fabric and some very basic embroidery skills.
Supplies needed:
scraps of felt and fabric
embroidery floss and sewing needle
stuffing
chestnut template

Let´s get started, shall we!
For one chestnut cut one big circle of felt for the body, one medium circle of fabric for the top bit and one little face piece from felt.
Cut the fabric piece with zigzag scissors to make it look even sweeter.
For the body take your felt circle and make four snips where marked on the template. Be careful not to cut too far into the center, you don´t want to cut your circle in halves.

Fold the circle in half and align two edges and sew a seam for each section you just cut. Use a very small seam allowance and make sure you back-stitch to secure the thread. You will end up with four seams. Turn your chestnut body right side out.

Sew your running stitch all the way around the edge. You will end up with two tails of thread. Put some stuffing into your body and then pull on the thread ends and secure with a knot. I like to make a few stitches across just to secure it some more.

Embroider the face on your face piece (again I´m using three strands of the floss).

First place the fabric circle and then the face on the body. Use a running stitch to sew the face to the body.

Sit back, admire your work and stitch up some friends for your cute little chestnut!

We really hope you enjoyed our tutorial for stitching up these sweet chestnuts! If there are any problems at all don´t hesitate to contact us!

We hope to see you again on Friday - this month is going to be all about apples!
